I shall be with you on my own sofa - though if its anythign like the mens 4 x 200 swim this morning I was on my feet screaming for the English and Scottish boys - gold and silver.

Lets hope our atheltes can rise to the challenge as well as our swimmers.

It starts tonight with womens hammer - though I cant stay up too late tonight as I confess I will miss some live action as I have my opening hammer comp tomorrow morning. I've had a back injury all week but I am determined to get out there and get a mark on the board for early season as a baseline. Lets hope I get some inspiration from the competition tonight(and lets hope the BBC actually show it!!)

Will be sad to watch the marathon without Paula but I'd rather see her not run than run injured and risk thr press slating her if she didnt win.

Ha ha - glad I wasnt the only one that did a double take.

I know we are short of athletes due to a large amount being in Australia - but making selecting poor Roger would have been a tad excessive!

37 is no age at all.

My 'old man' set his half marathon PB a few weeks ago at the grand old age of 40 and should set another big PB in London based on current training - and he's been running for years.

Now there is a topic - if you could bring anyone out of retirement who would it be (assuming they would be in their best form? I think I'd bring back Kris Akabusi

I remember you talking about Steven Lewis, and that he has continued to progress.

Nick Buckfield really hasn't done anything for the past couple of years--except that stupid decision in the Europa Cup last year not to vault until the bar was at 5.40 after not having cleared anything all year!! So losing the team even one point!

In the absence of many British finalists I adopted the German team yesterday for my viewing pleasure!

Always been a Lobinger fan anyway and Kleinert is the new Astrid Kumbernuss. (Though I look nothing like Kleinert!)

However I didnt go as far as to support Michael Schumacher - I stuck firmly with Jenson on that score!

On a note about our up and coming youngsters - did you note that Steven Lewis cleared 5.50 last week in Australia. He is only 5cm off being selected for the European Championships.

I know I was shouting in Bakctrack and to all and sundry about how I thought he was the future number 1 a couple of years ago - but I didnt think he'd be claiming the British UK number 1 slot quite so soon. Nick Buckfield needs to raise his game if he wants to finish number 1 Brit in the Commonwealths.

Just seen that Kate Dennison cleard 4.30 today putting her 2nd on all time list behind Janine.

Fingers crossed we can have our own Andre Nicklaus surprise in Melbourne!!!

Ahem - I must disupte your comment about Germany - they won 3 medals in the space of 20 minutes yesterday:

1 Andre Nicklaus (hepathlon) gold
2 Nadine Kleinert (shot put) silver
3 Tim Lobinger (Pole Vault) bronze

and they finished 6th in the table overall so not too bad really.

Come on now Sandra - the BBC coveragewas on at a reasonable time!!! - you need to get your practice in for the Commonwealths when you will be up all night :-)

I was the other way this weekend as I have Eurosport so I was getting up early in teh morning (for a weekend 0700 is early) to catch it live and watch the Heptathlon. Very impressed by the German Nicklaus. Where did he find the energy for that amazing sprint finish after 7 events. I got tired just watching it from my sofa!

Jimmy Watkins did dam fine too. I hope those selectors from Wales took note! He may not have been selected for the Commonwealths but he might just get invited to a Golden League & or Grand Prix event this summer now which I am sure will please his bank manager.

Well a pretty good start this weekend for the Brits.

Two PBs for Kelly Sotherton bodes well for Aus. With Kluft out its a shame she isnt going for the world indoors as there will probably never be a better time to take a world gold medal.

Fantastic to see little Danny Caines back in winning and (touch wood) injury free. Starting to build up a nice set of 400 runners with Caines, Benjamin, Tobin and Garland.

Was really pleased to see Steve Lewis deliver the potential I've been saying he has for a couple of years now. 5.40 and a couple of great scalps - and he's only 19. Still, I guess its a long way off Herr Lobinger's WL 5.80, but who knows in the future??

Andrew Baddeley looked pretty impressive too. The experience at Madrid in the Euro's last year obviously had a positive impact. Interesting that James Thie did a 3000 - wonder if he might move up a distance on a more permanent basis?

Jason Gardener looked good in this wins in Glasgow and Karlshure.....lets hope he can do it over the extra 40 metres this year in Aus.

Lots of other good stuff too. Yeeeha - the season is fully in swing!!!

(Although my swing has gone to pot on the hammer as I'm distracted watching the indoor action!!)

I can't afford to go to Oz but I am taking the time off work and will be living on Australian time watching it during the night and sleeping by day!!

So, the Dame has hung up her spikes....well, the Athens memories will stick with me for a very long time, and I'm pleased that it wasn't injury forcing her to quit.

I'm sure it's not the last we've heard of her...apparently she's doing the Strictly Ice Dancing series so I'm sure that'll end in yet another knackered achilles!

Pleased to see a forum set up dedicated to and for supporters of British Athletics. Hopefully we will attract a few people who might want to chat during the 'off-season' who might be feeling a little devoid of athletics at the moment.
